#BookReview – The Rise Of Sivagami

Not as much about Sivagami as it was about other several characters.

Plot
Although it was exciting to read about the corruption and dirty politics in Mahishmathi, it was tough to wrap my head around all of the parallel stories in the plot. The first 16 or 17 chapters just feel like an introduction to a ton of different plot lines, characters and parallel stories that would one day converge into the main event, in a very Game of Thrones-esq manner. I read the first few chapters at least a couple of times to even grasp what was happening and where is the origin of the story’s plot. For any novel that I read, this is super taxing unless the big reveal is really that… REALLY BIG. Which it wasn’t (not completely) in this case. It ended with a cliff-hanger, which is not as thrilling as #WKKB.

Writing Style
An origin story, it took a total of 18 sittings for me to finish this book. I usually read through a book with a maximum of 3 sittings (meaning, I pick up where I left off at most 3 times). With a ton of names of people, places, and objects completely unfamiliar to me, it was a draining task to finish reading this novel and wrap my head around the plot. But, with a flair for rich description, Anand Neelakantan paints Bahubali in (appropriately) suffocating hot tones, that goes best with describing the diminishing morality and increasing dirty politics in the kingdom.

Characters
There were lots of characters, but the book felt short in the sense that I could not spend a lot of time reading (or being with) some main characters like Sivagami and Vikramadeva/Bijjaladeva. Kattappa had a lot of pages dedicated to him because he wove through 3 or 4 different parallel plot lines bringing them together, but this novel didn’t feel like it was about Sivagami as much as it was about Kattappa.

Overall
Read if you’re all up for being dragged into the world of Mahishmathi, and its dirty tricks and mind games. I prefer the two movies much more, to be honest. Maybe because it has Prabhas and Rana in it. ;)

Recommended Age.
18+

#BookReview – Mrs. Funnybones

Twinkle Khanna is Jane Austen, reincarnated.

Booted with a keen eye that observes every minute detail, an open mind that soaks in information without bias, and an endearing self-deprecating sense of humour, Twinkle Khanna is most definitely my favourite authoress, Jane Austen, reborn. She’s charming, witty and fast becoming one of my role models.

Throughout the book, her ability to keenly observe social norms and behaviour and putting her point across with an impertinence that is so sweet, it can only remind you of  Austen’s literary works. This book is seriously my kind of forever. Even 20 years down the road, I know I’m gonna pick this up and read it with just as much gusto as my first time.

This is a classic, guys. Pour yourself some coffee, get cosy at “your spot” and devour this read!

Pocket Embellishments – Fabspiration

It is a truth universally acknowledged that jeans are your best friends in the casual department of your wardrobe. And we often get influenced by “trending things” and buy a pair of jeans just because it has some embellishment that our other pairs of jeans don’t. And turns out, you don’t wear that pair of jeans as often as you’d think you would at the time of purchase. I call such purchases the “Fantasy Purchases” bought on the whims of a shopaholic mind that gets instant gratification on “owning something that we never had.” But let’s be honest. Jobs are rare, and I’m realising that my hard earned money is just as liquid as my economics professor once said and they do slip by my fingers just as easily as water does.

But I do like a change in my wardrobe, and temporary ways to upgrade it, sound very appealing to me. Since I’m in the mood for playing around with my jeans, a temporary stitching of patches, ribbons, rhinestones and other embellishments around the pocket region of the jeans seems like a great idea where my pair of jeans get to don a different personality and become more playful!

All images are sourced from Pinterest, my heavenly source of inspiration.

Hence, stitch your desired embellishments in a way that it doesn’t come off while wearing it, but once you’re bored of the look, you can easily remove them and bring the pair of jeans back to their original form, or make some other changes with it. I think it’s a fabulous temporary way to upgrade your jeans, without having to spend much!

Mosh Book Review – The Mahabharata Quest: The Alexander Secret

The Alexander Secret

The Mahabharata Secret: The Alexander Secret by Christopher C. Doyle

Hey y’all!

I have a confession: I don’t like being an insomniac, and I try very hard to go to bed on time. Reading helps (sometimes only, because there have been situations when I’ve been unable to put down a book).

So here’s a book I picked up at an airport during my recent travels and luckily the book, The Mahabharata Quest: The Alexander Secret, did not let me get bored. Here’s a snippet of review, mainly discussing the plot, writing style and characters, my overall opinion and especially recommended age. The actual review is here on my goodreads account along with other books’ reviews.

Hey y’all!

So I’m back again! I’ve been MIA for proper reasons, I assure you. Pursing Masters degree is no joke, but I have to say I’ve been enjoying my studies a lot. So consumed I’ve been with my assignments and projects, it was really difficult to do something fun and post it here for you. But I suppose, now that I’ve given it a good 4 months to adjusting to my new life in Milan, I shall try and post more frequently. I can’t promise you that it will be all about fashion though. I’ve a new found love in cooking, so I might be expanding on my blog “portfolio” from now on. Of course, fashion will be my main love, but you never know…
